A new build primary school in West Hampstead, London, constructed out of CLT, sound insulation had to be carefully considered in order to minimise disturbance between classrooms while leaving as much exposed as possible.
Gillieron Scott Acoustic Design Consultants provided several auralisations to quantify the impact of the adjacent railway to the key stakeholders in order to carry out value engineering of potential building isolation. Feedback showed that the client really welcomed this tool which allowed them to go beyond the objective parameters and hear different scenarios subjectively.
RIBA quote:
“The grand assembly hall is impressive and reminiscent of the scale of a Victorian school hall with its huge volume and pitched roof. However, this is much warmer and far better acoustically! It is flexible and can be divided and used as a dining and sports hall with plenty of integrated storage space for equipment to be tidied away.”
